MANUFACTURING

Every Angelo Cappellini creation is the result of a production process that combines the sensitivity of Italian craftsmanship with technological advances. It is a process in which the human hand plays a leading role, transforming materials into furnishings that tell stories of timeless beauty.

Discover every stage of our production process and be inspired by the charm of authentic Italian craftsmanship.

SELECTION AND PREPARATION OF BOARDS

It all starts with the choice of wood, carefully selected to ensure quality and aesthetic appeal. Each board must have a precise drying point, which is essential to prevent deformation over time and ensure maximum stability of the finished product. Once ready, the boards are cut into smaller pieces to facilitate processing.
It is a fundamental stage in the production process, where knowledge of materials and respect for tradition come together.

MARKING AND CUTTING

Once ready, the wooden boards are passed into the expert hands of a worker who, with the help of special templates, traces the shapes of the various components that will make up the piece of furniture by hand.
Once the marking is complete, the boards are cut with a circular saw, reduced into smaller, more manageable pieces, ready for the next stages of processing.
It is at this point that the material begins to transform, following a precise design that combines technique and craftsmanship.

TOWARDS THE PERFECT SHAPE

Each log is unique, with its own grain, imperfections, and natural variations. That is why, after cutting, each piece of wood must be carefully processed to achieve the right uniformity. Planing and thicknessing make the surfaces perfectly smooth and regular, ensuring that each element meets the thickness required for the subsequent stages. For some items, the process continues with contouring: a process carried out with numerically controlled machines that define the profiles of the individual components with extreme precision, following the shapes specified in the design.

TRADITIONAL MACHINERY

In our carpentry workshop, traditional machinery still plays a leading role today. This equipment, which is essential for cutting, drilling, making tenons, and inserting dowels, always requires the expertise of the operator who guides each step. Each element is carefully prepared to ensure that the joints are perfect and ready for solid, durable assembly. It is at this stage that technical precision meets artisan sensitivity, laying the foundations for furniture of excellent quality.

5-AXIS PANTOGRAPH

The 5-axis pantograph is one of the most significant technological innovations introduced in our production departments, allowing complex machining operations to be carried out on multiple surfaces in a single phase, with millimetric precision. It does not replace the craftsman’s hand, but rather complements it, expanding its expressive possibilities and ensuring consistent quality even in the most intricate details. It is the ideal tool for faithfully translating the design into form, while preserving the artisanal spirit that has always distinguished each of our creations.

THE ART OF WOODCARVING

Each element to be carved is first drawn, faithfully following a pre-established design or sketching new ornamental motifs freehand. But skilled carving requires much more than just talent in drawing: it requires a deep knowledge of the material. Each type of wood has its own texture, grain, and response to the chisel. This is how unique details are created, the result of sensitivity, technique, and respect for the material.

RAW FRAMES VERIFICATION

Once all the raw components have been completed, each item is assembled by hand, a fundamental step in ensuring absolute fidelity to the original model. This meticulous check allows us to verify the correctness of the parts and promptly identify any inaccuracies or misalignments. Thanks to this practice, it is possible to intervene to correct every detail, thus ensuring strict compliance with the quality standards that distinguish each of our creations.

SURFACE CARE

After initial processing, each component undergoes a careful smoothing phase, which eliminates any imperfections and leaves surfaces perfectly smooth, uniform, and pleasant to the touch. This process, which is essential to guarantee the excellent quality of the finished product, involves a calibrated sequence of mechanical and manual operations. The result is a carefully sanded material, ready to receive the final finishes and fully express the elegance that sets us apart.

GLUING AND FINISHING

Once each component has been carefully finished and checked, the final gluing phase is carried out manually. But the work does not end with the joining of the parts: the carver intervenes again to connect the joints, sculpting the transitions between the various elements by hand. In this way, the decoration takes on visual and material continuity, without interruptions, as if it were born from a single block of wood. It is a meticulous phase, where the expert eye and sensitivity of the craftsman make the difference between a simple piece of furniture and an authentic work of art.

PAINTING

After careful inspection by the finishing manager, who checks for integrity and imperfections, the raw item is entrusted to the expert hands of the painting department. Polishing, lacquering, gold leafing: each treatment is chosen and applied with precision, according to the style and character of the piece. At the end of the process, the manager performs a final meticulous check, ensuring that every surface is perfect and ready for the final stages.

UPHOLSTERY AND COVERING

After the polishing phase, the items destined for upholstery are sent to the specialized department, where each piece is carefully matched with the fabric or leather chosen by the customer, according to the project specifications. Next, the padding is done entirely by hand, shaping the soft materials onto the structure with absolute precision, so that every line is harmonious and every surface is perfectly comfortable. Attention to detail is not limited to visible parts: even the less exposed areas are finished with the same dedication, reflecting a standard of quality that goes beyond appearance.

FINAL ASSEMBLY

The products that require it reach the assembly department, where each piece is assembled and the functional and decorative elements are applied: handles, tips, locks, lighting, and every other detail that contributes to defining the character and use of the item. During assembly, each product is tested to verify its stability, the opening of the mechanisms, the alignment, and the perfection of each component. It is only at the end of this phase that, depending on the type, the final signature is applied: a brass plate or a label with the brand name, certifying authenticity, quality, and origin entirely Made in Italy.

SAFE UNTIL THEIR DESTINATION

Each item is individually packaged with the utmost care. Depending on the type of product, destination, and means of transport—whether by land, sea, or air—specific materials are used: thick cardboard boxes, reinforced crates, or custom-made wooden crates.
Each package is designed to effectively protect the most delicate parts and preserve the integrity of the piece during all stages of shipping. It is the final gesture of care, designed to ensure that each creation arrives at its destination just as it left our factory: in perfect condition, ready to be admired and enjoyed.
